China – More on Strategic Alliances

Several articles today focus on China’s continuing development of strategic alliances.  In summary:

•    one titled ‘The China-Africa alliance’ says that “Africa is critically important to China’s global strategy, for a number of reasons: the continent’s geopolitical importance; its large, untapped market; and its abundance of natural resources. And as more Chinese companies feel the need to enter new markets and seek more resources, Africa will only see increased Chinese business and investment activity”;

•    a second titled ‘China makes its move as U.S. falls back in Latin America’ says “All but invisible in Latin America a decade ago, China now is building cars in Uruguay, donating a soccer stadium to Costa Rica and lending $10 billion to Brazil’s biggest oil company.  It’s supplanted the United States to become the biggest trading partner with Brazil, South America’s biggest economy”; and,

•    a third titled ‘Chinese group begins multi-billion Afghan project’ reports “A Chinese firm started work on a copper deposit in Afghanistan on Thursday that is thought to contain up to 13 million tonnes of copper and is regarded as one of the major ore bodies in the world, part of a multi-billion dollar project and the first major foreign investment of its kind in Afghan history”.

I suggest you visit these articles – particularly the first two – and read them carefully.  I think they underscore with triple underlines what I have been saying repetitively on this blog over the past several months.  China is rapidly developing strategic business alliances on the back of the extensive U.S. treasury bills and other paper it has accumulated (largely) since 2000 as its manufacturers have supplanted U.S. and other developed country manufacturers.  I will be dumbfounded if this trend does not continue in the coming months and years.
