Household Support > Tax Receipts!

I found a recent article titled ‘Government Cash Handouts Now Top Tax Revenues‘ – reading time 3 minutes – a rather sad commentary on the current state of the U.S. economy.  The article claims that in 2010 U.S. households received U.S.$2.3 trillion in various forms of government support, and that this amount exceeded the taxes paid by those households by U.S.$100 billion.  The article also says The Fiscal Times reports that the only other time U.S. government support exceeded U.S. household taxes paid was in each of the years 1931-1936.  All in all, a rather dreary picture, and one I suggest you read and think about if you are an investor in U.S. equities, or own physical gold and silver.

New StockResearchPortal.com Feature – Filtered News Further Expanded

We have just introduced yet another new feature (or, better said, three new features) to Stock Research Portal.  These three new features can be found under (1) E-Learning, (2) Economic Research, and (3) Industry Research (on the Main Navigation Line).  Each of these features sorts and compiles the daily filtered news stories we select each day (accessed daily through Home Page ‘Filtered News’ links), and makes them available for a period of 180 days.

Main Navigation News

Filtered Education News:  Click on E-Learning on the Home Page Main Navigation Line.  On the resultant E-learning webpage click on ‘Filtered Education News’ found in the Left Navigation.  You will be taken to 4 News Release Categories – Investment Education, Mining Companies Valuation, Oil & Gas Companies Valuation, and Valuation Education.  The number of articles listed for each category is shown.

Education News

Filtered Economic News:  Click on Economic Research on the Home Page Main Navigation Line.  On the resultant Economic Research webpage click on ‘Filtered Economic News’ found in the Left Navigation. You will be taken to a summary page that gives you a choice of 24 ‘Filtered Economic News’ Categories – a General Economic Category and 23 Country or Geographic Area Categories.  Again, we show you the number of articles listed under each of those 24 Categories.

Filtered Economic News

Filtered Industry News:  Finally, click on Industry Research on the Home Page Main Navigation Line.  On the resultant Industry Research webpage click on ‘Filtered Industry News’ found in the Left Navigation. You will be taken to a summary page that gives you a choice of 20 ‘Filtered Industry News’ Categories – and again, we show you the number of articles listed under each of those 20 Categories.

Industry News

We like to think you find our ‘Today’s Filtered News’ useful in your Resource Research.  Please let us know if you have any suggestions as to how we can improve this feature by writing to us at info@stockresearchportal.com.

Silver – Again and Again!

An article this morning is titled ‘Silver Bubble: Should you keep your fingers crossed?‘ – reading time 4 minutes – recommended thinking time much longer.  This article distinguishes between (1) buyers of physical silver who can be presumed to be ‘buy and hold’ investors, and (2) ‘hot money’ traders who will ‘run from this market faster than they came in’ if when they are finished with their trade.  Volatility in physical silver is clearly higher than volatility in physical gold.  For example, at one point yesterday the physical silver price was down about 2%, whereas concurrently the physical gold price was down only a 1/10 of 1%.

I see there being two important messages in this article, and suggest if you hold physical silver or are thinking of buying physical silver that you read it – and read it with an open mind.  I suggest silver bugs in particular should think with their heads and not their hearts as they read this article.  The two important messages I have had reconfirmed for me by this article are (1) what goes up fast (and silver certainly has exploded in price since early February – up about 65%) often comes down fast, and (2) traders are traders, and are solely in the business of increasing their fiat currency capital -silver is simply for them a ‘trade’, not a long-term ‘safe haven’ hold.

That is not to say that over time physical silver won’t continue to trend higher, it might, and might be at a higher price than it currently is six or eighteen months from now – but then again, it is far from guaranteed to trend higher from this morning’s price (as I write this) of about U.S.$46.  The road to what may prove to be higher physical silver prices likely will be very bumpy – and may require ‘buy and hold’ investors in physical silver to either have very strong stomachs, or invest in the shares of the company that makes the current leading stomach antacid product.

A second article published today along the same lines is titled ‘Be cautious investing in Silver‘ – reading time 4 minutes.  If you own physical silver or are contemplating buying some, I suggest you read and think about this article also.  Finally, to get another ‘more upside’ view you might want to watch an April 25 interview by Al Korelin (Korelin Economics Report) of James Turk, where Turk says ‘we are in uncharted waters’ once silver is over U.S.$50′.
